Type of position: post-doc, research position
Name: Adrián Segura Ortiz
Description:

I am a recent PhD in Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence seeking a postdoctoral or research position starting from January 2027. My main interest is the development of new methods in evolutionary computation and optimisation, particularly multi- and many-objective optimisation, quality-diversity and related metaheuristics, with a strong focus on challenging biomedical, bioinformatics and clinical problems.

My research has mainly explored how optimisation methods can be guided by domain knowledge and biological context, with applications including gene regulatory network inference, single-cell data analysis and heterogeneous biclustering. I am particularly interested in positions where methodological advances in evolutionary computation and optimisation are a central part of the research, rather than optimisation being used only as an application tool.

I am open to related data-driven scientific applications and interdisciplinary collaborations, and I am available to relocate internationally.

Short CV:

PhD in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Málaga (Spain), awarded Cum Laude with International Mention in December 2025. I also hold a BSc in Health Engineering (Bioinformatics) and an MSc in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence.

My research combines evolutionary computation, multi/many-objective optimisation and biomedical data analysis. My doctoral work focused on context-guided computational methods for consensus inference of gene regulatory networks and the detection of co-expression patterns. I have developed open-source research software for evolutionary GRN inference and heterogeneous biclustering, including GENECI, MO-GENECI, BIO-INSIGHT, MOEBA-BIO and SALVI, and my work has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed journal and conference publications.

I have also carried out international research collaborations and stays at ATHENA Research Center (Greece), CRIStAL / Université de Lille (France) and INAB-CERTH (Greece), working on single-cell GRN inference, evolutionary heterogeneous biclustering and optimisation applied to clinical data.
